Unilever, the parent company of PG Tips, will be using some of its tea expertise and working with the African country of Tanzania. Unilever is planning to double the tea production of Tanzania. At the moment, Unilever harvests 10,000 tons of tea each year. Tea from Tanzania is used in Lipton and PG Tips teas.
Doubling of tea production will add another 5,000 jobs on Unilever’s tea esates. Plus, it will add another 6000 hectares of local tea farms. To achieve this goal, the company will be working with the Tanzania government, Tanzania Tea Board and Tanzania Smallholder Tea Development Agency.
