Unilever Stops Testing Tea on Animals

Unilever, the company that owns PG Tips, has stopped testing tea on animals.  Recently, Unilever came under criticism for research it was conducting on tea and health.   Research involved several areas such as finding out if tea blocked the E.coli bacteria, determining if tea could help clear up plaque in arteries or block the effects of high-sugar diets.

Unilever released a statement on its web site:

“Given the leadership role our tea category takes in the area of environmental sustainability and the ethical sourcing of tea, Unilever is committing to no animal testing for our tea and tea-based beverages, with immediate effect.”
