Want to try some new PG Tips Teas? Now, you have the chance. Unilever, the company that owns PG Tips, is launching a series of new PG Tips teas under the name “The New Ones.”

Shortly, 3 new teas will be introduced: The Fresh One, The Strong One and The Delicate One. These new teas preserve freshness made with innovate, new patented technology from Unilever.

According to PG Tips, the tea leaves in these new products offer a fresher cup of tea than regular teas since the tea gets an extra pressing to preserve flavor.

Plans are for these teas to be available only in the UK.

If drinking a tea with a minimal impact on the environment is important to you, then consider PG Tips.

Unilever, the company that owns and produces PG Tips, recently launched a plan to cut in half the environmental impact of its products.   The plan covers obvious items such as the greenhouse gas emissions, waste, water use as well as reducing impact by supliers and consumers, from agricultural growers to the packaging and waste water produced by consumers of company product, such as PG Tips.

Should your PG Tips tea bag go in your compost pile?  Yes, but maybe not all of the tea bag.

A UK consumer group has told that most tea bags sold in the Great Britain are not totally biodegradable. The outside of the tea bag is left behind after the tea has gone. This is because of polypropylene, which is a heat-resistant plastic used in small amount in the tea bag.

PG Tips issued a statement, “Like most of the teabags in the UK, our teabags are made with about 80% paper fibre, which is fully compostable along with the tea leaves contained in the bag. The remaining packaging includes a small amount of plastic which is not fully biodegradable.”

The British Government says you still can compost your tea bag. Just tear apart the tea bag.

Here is a tip when buying PG Tips (whether you are buying in the store or on the Internet).   Make sure to look for the “Best By” date before purchasing that box of PG Tips Tea.  Every box of PG Tips has the Best By date stamped on the bottom.

The “Best By” date is placed on the box during the production process. Tea producers must label products to comply with country laws. Tea can safely be consumed after the “Best By” date. The “Best By” date is totally different than the “Use By” date. The “Use By” date means foods should not be consumed after this date.

Remember, tea does not go bad. If you store it properly, it will last a long time.

The most popular variety of PG Tips comes in a box of 80 tea bags.  The box you buy should look like the one below. The tea bags should be pyramid shaped.  Each box also has to Best Before date stamped on the bottom. If you buy your tea in a market or online make sure to look for this information to ensure your tea is fresh.
